据2008年2月23日《澳洲人报》报道， 在一项全国性的购车人士满意度调查中，日系车排名居前，而澳洲本地的霍顿（Holden）及福特(Ford)排名最靠后。

这次由JD Power Group主办的澳洲首次汽车满意度调查采用国际标准问卷，在数千名三年内买过汽车的人士当中进行。打分的项目包括质量，设计，性能和可靠性等因素。

调查结果显示，日本进口车马自达(Mazda)，本田(Honda)，丰田(Toyota)位居分别排在满意度最高前三名，而澳洲本地产的霍顿（Holden）和福特（Ford）则吊尾，甚至排在韩国车起亚（Kia）和现代（Hyundai）之后。
买家们对霍顿和福特汽车在在质量，可靠性及服务上给分不高。

墨尔本房产拍卖出清率大幅下跌 是否预示市场降温？

据2008年2月24日《The Sunday Age》报道，墨尔本房产市场在昨天迎来近两年来首次明显降温迹象，一些地区的房产拍卖的出清率（clearance rate）两年来第一次低于60%，而去年这一数据一直保持在80%左右。

维州地产协会（REIV）表示，墨尔本地产市场似乎短期见顶，未来房价走势将趋缓。

墨尔本获选全球举办运动盛会最佳城市

据2006年11月13日《Herald Sun》报道，墨尔本日前被选为全球举办运动盛会的最佳城市，领先并列第二的巴黎和悉尼，德国柏林和英国伦敦分别排名第四、五名。

这是世界首度以举办运动盛会城市所做的评比，预计这除了将提振墨尔本的观光收益，也会有助于墨尔本承办包括世界杯足球赛在内的国际体坛盛事。

由伦敦一家研究顾问公司ArkSports所做的这项研究指出，墨尔本在承办国际赛事上获得“前所未见的极高声誉”，许多国际活动主办单位负责人对于墨尔本的“多功能性、比赛场地、城市氛围和当地民众对于体育的热情”都赞誉有加。

澳洲政府正式宣布申办2018年世界杯足球赛

据2008年2月24日《The Sunday Age》报道，陆克文的工党联邦政府宣布，澳洲将正式申办2018年世界杯足球赛。

如果申办成功，该项世界足球盛事将在全澳各大体育馆举行，比如墨尔本的MCG和Telstra Dome，悉尼的ANZ Stadium，Sydney Football Stadium，布里斯班的Suncorp Stadium以及西澳珀斯刚过宣布即将兴建的一座大型新运动场，而总决赛则可能在墨尔本的MCG举行。

中国、英国、俄国、墨西哥、美国、荷兰比利时都已加入申办大战。

悉尼29岁母亲被控杀害两名年幼子女

据2008年2月23日《悉尼晨锋报》报道，29岁越裔女子被悉尼警方正式以谋杀两名年龄分别年幼子女罪控上法庭。2月19日晚，在悉尼西南Canley Heights区McKibbin Street一个越南裔家庭发生惨剧，一名三岁女童和五岁男孩的尸体被发现，一名据信是幼童母亲的29岁女子也受伤，被送往Liverpool医院救治。

警方是在验尸的结果和进一步的调查后做出这项检控的。这名29岁的母亲被拒绝保释并将被还押至5月14日再度出庭受审。
